Cheap flights in Europe: 5 tips to travel as cheaply as possible

1. Use low-cost airlines

If you want to find the cheapest flights around Europe, the best way is to use low-cost airlines such as Ryanair, Wizz Air, easyJet or Vueling. These airlines offer the lowest prices, especially if you book well in advance or fly on less busy days such as Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

2. Be flexible

Another key to savings is flexibility. The more you’re willing to adjust the date and destination, the cheaper the flight you can find. It’s also worth keeping an eye on prices in anonymous browser mode, as some sites can artificially inflate amounts if you look at the same route repeatedly.

3. Look for creative flight combinations

Sometimes you can save a lot of money by buying two one-way tickets from different companies instead of a standard return ticket. Another way to cut costs is to combine different arrivals and departures, for example flying into Milan, spending a few days there and flying back from Venice.

4. The best tools for finding discount airline tickets

The best tools for finding cheap flights are Skyscanner and Kiwi.com. Skyscanner allows you to browse prices by whole month or enter a destination “anywhere” to find the best value options. Kiwi.com, on the other hand, can cleverly combine different airlines to offer you the lowest price even for more complex routes.

5. Travel with hand luggage only

Travelling with hand luggage is a great way to save both money and time. Checking your suitcase can unnecessarily prolong your wait at the airport, and it also increases the price of your ticket. Hand luggage can weigh up to 10kg, but each airline has its own rules which are good to check before you travel. Don’t forget about liquid restrictions – they must be in bottles of no more than 100ml and stored in a transparent bag. Travelling without checked baggage is not only more practical, but also more efficient.
