The Christmas markets in Brno are among the most beautiful and successful ones that you can visit in the Czech Republic during Advent this year. The markets in Brno are not just in one main square, you will find them in many more places and offer more than meets the eye. In today’s post, we’ll take a look at what you can’t miss in Brno during Christmas. And it’s not just about the legendary turbomost or trdelník – instead, we’ll focus on less traditional tips.

Surroundings of the Old Town Hall

You can experience the best in the surroundings of Brno’s Old Town Hall. Whether it’s the Green Market, where there is not only a beautiful and subtly decorated tree, but also many stalls with refreshments and various products. Directly below the Old Town Hall in the courtyard there is the Gourmet Market, where you can taste great specialties from local businesses. We can highly recommend the hot eggnog from Eggo, which is absolutely delicious!

If you are more of a mulled wine type, then be sure to try the mulled wine at Klára and Bára’s stand. Just across the wall from the Old Town Hall courtyard is the year-round Būcheck, which also offers great burgers, fries and other specialties at Christmas. If you’re hungry, you have to try this burger.

But not to mention only food and drink, we must also mention the view from the Old Town Hall. The tower, which costs 90 CZK per adult, has dozens of stairs leading up to it, after climbing which you get a 360-degree view of the whole of Brno, including a view of the Christmas market. It is this combination of great food, drink and views of the whole city that makes us recommend the area around the Old Brno Town Hall as the best that this year’s markets in Brno have to offer.

Markets in other places

However, we mentioned in the beginning of this article that markets in Brno are not just about one place or main square. Other markets can be found on Svoboda Square, which is only a few hundred metres from the Old Town Hall, Dominican Square or Moravian Square. In addition to the markets, Moravské náměstí is also home to a large Ferris wheel, which once again offers a beautiful view of the whole of Brno.

The aforementioned Liberty Square probably offers the most traditional version of Christmas markets and is usually the most crowded, while Dominican Square offers a beautiful wooden nativity scene and a more intimate atmosphere.

The great advantage of Brno is that you can walk around all the markets mentioned above and it is a beautiful walk with a great Christmas atmosphere. Also, because there is more choice, visitors are spread out among more places and the centre of Brno is not so “busy”. Plus – don’t like it in one place? Try walking just a few dozen or a few hundred metres to another place with a different offer or live music.

So if you want to soak up the true Christmas atmosphere, taste good food and drink, you will definitely be satisfied with Brno.
