Follow our itinerary to Copenhagen. Experience a modern city with a rich history of sights and gastronomic delights.
Unlock Learn moreCopenhagen, as the capital of Denmark, is an absolutely perfect destination for a long weekend. In 2-3 days, you can not only explore the whole city centre, including the sights and various sights, but also take a boat trip through the local canals and enjoy some great food. These are the activities that our three-day itinerary focuses on.
In addition to the sights right in the city centre, on the second and third days we will visit other parts of Copenhagen, see the historic fortress, the super-modern park and explore two swimming options.
It is worth mentioning that Denmark, and Copenhagen is no exception, is one of the more expensive destinations. So be prepared for higher prices, especially for services. However, as with other destinations, Copenhagen is a good place to save money and there is no need to visit only the expensive places. This also applies to accommodation.
Copenhagen is most easily accessible by air. Of course, there is also the option of driving to the Danish capital, but we don't recommend this as a means of transport for a long weekend.
Prague
The cheapest option for a trip to Copenhagen is undoubtedly Ryanair, which offers tickets to Copenhagen for under a hundred crowns in various promotions throughout the year.
Prague
A slightly more expensive, but more comfortable, option is Norwegian.
The most suitable accommodation for this itinerary is in the Nyhavn area, which is the starting point for all three days. A great choice is, for example, the Admiral Hotel.

We will start the first day in the city centre, where we will see the most famous sights and beautiful views together.
Before we head to the first place, however, it’s worth mentioning how to actually get from the airport to the city centre. Directly from the airport, the modern M2 metro line takes you just a few hundred metres from the famous Nyhavn area in about half an hour without changing trains. The nearest stop is marked Kongens Nytorv.
11.8 km (40 mins)
The Nyhavn area will be a frequent focus of this itinerary, not least because the accommodation we recommend is only a few minutes’ walk away. Moreover, if you visit Copenhagen during the Advent season, expect to see a variety of stalls selling food, drink and souvenirs in the area.
Nyhavn is a picturesque canal in the centre of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city and is famous for its colourful houses, narrow streets and historic atmosphere, definitely not to be missed during your visit to Copenhagen. Today, Nyhavn is a popular tourist destination and is home to many restaurants, cafes and bars. It is a popular place for photography.
The advantage of the first and, in fact, the second day of this itinerary is that most places are within walking distance of each other. Therefore, our next stop, only about 1 kilometre away, will be the famous Kongens Have park.
1.0 km (14 mins)
It is a beautiful, well-maintained park full of historical statues and buildings. It was founded in the 17th century as a garden for Rosenborg Castle. From spring it is full of flowering plants, but it is beautiful at any time of the year.
Right in the gardens is the famous Rosenborg Castle, the most prominent building in the area. Especially in autumn, it is a magical place that plays with all colours.
Rosenborg Castle was built in the 17th century and served as the royal residence of Danish monarchs. Today it houses an extensive collection of royal jewels and historical artefacts.
After a visit to the popular park, we head back to the narrower city centre, where the unique Rundetaarn tower is located. It is famous not only for its view of the city, but especially for the access to its top. There are no stairs leading up, but a paved path. Find out more about this gem in the site details.
But if you get hungry before visiting Rundetaarn, we recommend a short stop at the beautiful foodhall.

A modern foodhall in the wider centre of Copenhagen, near Rosenborg Castle. The place not only offers food made with quality ingredients, such as great sandwiches, but also a local atmosphere. The place is not only popular with tourists, but also with locals.

The Rundetaarn or Rundetårn is a 17th century tower located in the centre of Copenhagen, Denmark, and is definitely not to be missed when visiting Copenhagen. Due to its location, it offers a beautiful view of the city. A distinctive feature of the tower is the so-called spiral ramp instead of a staircase.
There are several stories related to it, for example, that in 1716 the Russian Tsar Peter the Great rode up the tower on his horse or that in 1902 the first motorized vehicle, the Beaufort car, rode up the tower.
We have one view of the city behind us and another in front of us. We will go to Christiansborg Slot, the former royal palace. It is an important building for Denmark, housing many important institutions. There is also a beautiful view of the whole city or the horse paddock.
Tickets to the building, including the observation tower, can be purchased on site for less than DKK 200, roughly CZK 660. For more information on tickets, visit the official website.
0.8 km (11 mins)
Christiansborg Slot is a former royal palace and government building. It is the seat of the Danish Parliament, the office of the Danish Prime Minister and the Supreme Court of Denmark. Christiansborg Slot is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Christiansborg Slot is open to the public for guided tours. Tours are available in Danish, English, French, German and Swedish. The tours last approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of the tour to allow time to check in and go through security.
You can also visit the Christiansborg Palace tower only, admission is free but you have to go through a security check.
Near Christiansborg Slot there are also several companies that operate commercial ferries. The ferry is a great way to explore the canals of the narrower centre and see other places from a “boat perspective”. In our experience, we can recommend the company Stromma, which offers several cruise options. Prices for an hour cruise, which is perfectly adequate, start at around 400 CZK per person.
The first day is slowly coming to an end. However, if you still have enough time and energy, we can recommend, for example, a visit to the Danish Architecture Centre or at least a walk around its surroundings. The various corners and the drive back to Nyhavn are definitely worth it.
0.7 km (10 mins)
The Danish Architecture Centre in Copenhagen is a cultural centre focusing on modern architecture and design. It offers various exhibitions, lectures and workshops.

We’ll end a busy first day with a great meal in a great place. Then it’s just a matter of returning to our accommodation, which for this itinerary is right in the centre of Copenhagen.
