Calton Hill is another place in Edinburgh not to be missed. It’s not difficult to get here, the hill is just a short walk from the city centre and the main Princes Street and there are only a few steps up. Calton Hill is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of seven rocky peaks within the city. Several monuments can be found here, including the National Monument, the Nelson Monument and the former observatory. There are beautiful views of the city and the sea.
From Calton Hill you can see the aforementioned Princes Street, Scott Monument and Edinburgh Castle in the distance. If you’re lucky, you’ll also come across street performers who will make your visit to the area more enjoyable by playing the bagpipes.
