Lake Klammsee is located in the Austrian Alps, near Kaprun in the province of Salzburg. This beautiful lake was artificially created in 1938 by damming the Kapruner Ache River and has since become a popular recreational spot for locals and visitors alike. It takes its name from the narrow gorge (German: “Klamm”) through which the river flows. The Klammsee is surrounded by the imposing peaks of the Alps, providing a magnificent view of the surrounding scenery and creating a peaceful and relaxing environment.
There is a hiking trail around the entire lake, which will take you no more than 45 minutes to complete. We recommend combining a visit to the lake with a stop at the Sigmund-Thun-Klamm gorge. In winter, the Klammsee turns into a picturesque frozen lake, while the surrounding mountains provide ideal terrain for skiing and snowboarding. Lake Klammsee is therefore an idyllic location for those seeking a connection with nature and active relaxation in a unique alpine setting.
There is a parking lot right by the lake, from which the lake shore is only a few metres away. However, if you connect your walk around the lake with the aforementioned gorge, stop near it and visit it first.
