Place description

Lago di Braies is clearly one of the most famous and most visited lakes and places in northern Italy and South Tyrol in general. And no wonder, it is a truly magical place with many beautiful views of the surrounding area. The lake is especially famous for its typical boats that you can rent – however, it is a very touristy and expensive affair and if you don’t necessarily need a photo of the boat for Instagram, you can safely skip this activity.

What we would recommend instead is a walk around the entire lake. With an elevation gain of about 100 metres and a length of about 3.5 km, you will get to many beautiful views of the lake and its surroundings. In addition, there are several opportunities to stop, sit or have a quick snack on the path, which is not entirely paved and thus not entirely suitable for strollers.

Accessibility

As already mentioned, Lago di Braies is one of the most visited places in the Dolomites, which is also linked to accessibility by car and parking. There are several car parks on site, but they fill up very quickly in the morning. Because of this, the local administration has decided to introduce in the period from 10. 7. to 10. 9. restrictions on entering the area, so that you simply cannot get to the lake by car between 9:30 and 16:00. However, you can also take advantage of alternatives in the form of buses. Either way, we recommend that you visit Lago di Braies ideally outside the high season, for example, even in winter you can get to the lake (unless there is a snow calamity in the area :)).
