Dedicated to St. Mary, the Liebfrauen-Überwasser Church was consecrated in 1040, making it one of Münster’s oldest churches. Its name means “Church beyond the water,” referring to its location across the Aa River. Heavily damaged during World War II, it was rebuilt in 1968 and renovated in 2016. Each Christmas, the church presents a breathtaking art installation, inviting visitors to step inside and experience the beauty firsthand.
Next to the church stands the Diocesan Library (Diözesanbibliothek), designed by architect Max Dudler and opened in 2005. Its sleek modern design forms a fascinating contrast to the historic church, creating a striking dialogue between past and present.
Of the 150 traditional breweries that once called Münster home, only one remains — Pinkus Müller. Brewing since 1816 and now in its seventh generation, this family brewery stands for craftsmanship, heritage, and unmistakable flavor.
