Place description

Ponta da Ladeira is one of a number of viewpoints ( miradouros in Portuguese) on the west coast of the island, providing breathtaking views of the never-ending ocean and the green, steep cliffs that line the whole of Madeira. A small but easily accessible car park with picnic tables is located right next to the viewpoint.

The viewpoint is located to the left of the parking lot; for the best views, it is worth descending a little lower on the unofficial path (a few dozen meters) to the end of the cliff. From here you can also get a great view of the remote village below the cliffs of Achada da Cruz, which is only accessible by the Teleférico das Achadas da Cruz cable car (which, however, is not always open, especially due to frequent windy conditions).

Ponta da Ladeira is definitely one of the most beautiful viewpoints on Madeira’s northwest coast – and one of those times when it pays to stray a little off the official routes for the best views.
