Salzburg is known for its long history and impressive architecture. The historic city centre has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The city is also associated with one of the greatest musical geniuses of all time, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who was born here in 1756. Mozart’s birthplace and the Mozarteum Museum are popular destinations for classical music and history lovers.
Even though we were only here for a few hours, we managed to walk through the beautiful Mirabellgarten gardens, see the historic centre including Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s birthplace, peek into the Dom zu Salzburg cathedral, see the magnificent Residenzplatz and walked along the Marko-Feingold-Steg bridge and the local waterfront on our way back to the car. We also went to the castle, Fortress Hohensalzburg, otherwise the Upper Castle Salzburg, but our journey in the 40 degree heat was thwarted by a cat who wouldn’t let us go on with our dog. The fortress can also be reached by cable car, but we recommend bringing a muzzle for the dog, there was a notice on site that the dog should have one.
