Just a short distance from Beroun, within sight of the Křivoklát forests, stands one of our most beautiful and well-preserved castles – Točník. If you are planning a trip where the whole family will enjoy themselves, you have just found the ideal destination. Its story is fascinating. It was built by King Wenceslas IV at the end of the 14th century for one simple reason: his older and smaller Žebrák Castle, which lies just down the road, was no longer enough for him after a fire. He therefore decided to “upgrade” and built himself a new, absolutely magnificent and luxurious residence, which was the pinnacle of comfort and security for its time.

But what would a proper castle be without its animal inhabitants? The main attraction, especially for children, are undoubtedly the local bear brothers Agata and Martin, who live happily in the castle moat. For an admission fee of 180 CZK for an adult, you not only get a ticket to history, but also to a small zoo. The best part is that you can explore the whole area all by yourself and at your own pace, no one will chase you. Climb the walls, take in the breathtaking views of the countryside and let the kids imagine what it was like to be a knight.

And how do you get here? Quite simply. You leave your car in the parking lot in the village just below the hill. From there, it’s a leisurely walk of about a kilometre and a half. It’s up a gentle hill, so you’ll get a nice stretch, and even smaller hikers can easily manage the journey. Along the way, you’ll see not only the castle itself, but also the sheep and goat paddocks, which are often just inches from the path.
