Urriðafoss is a huge waterfall located on the river Þjórsá. The Þjórsá is the longest river in Iceland, approximately 230 kilometres long. This waterfall can be found at the very edge of the Golden Circle, within which is the more famous Gullfoss waterfall. The average flow of the Urriðafoss is 350 m3 per second, but during the spring thaw it can rise to 1 000 – 1 500 m3 per second.
It’s just a few steps from the parking lot, be sure to stop here if you’re headed to Southeast Iceland or the aforementioned Golden Circle. There is a newly created trail with a viewing platform and informational signs.
