Welterbespirale

Welterbespirale, sometimes referred to as the World Heritage Spiral, is a viewing platform at the summit of Krippenstein at an altitude of around 2,100 meters. It is a shiny aluminum ship-shaped structure that is hard to miss on the plateau. Entry is free and it is open during the operating hours of the second section of the cable car.

From the upper cable car station, you can reach it via a comfortable path in about 15 minutes, and even children can handle it – only the final part isn’t quite suitable for non-all-terrain strollers. A circular view in all directions awaits you: the Dachstein with its glacier, Hallstatt, the lake below, as well as the surrounding peaks and the plateau. Along the way, you’ll also pass the smaller Welterbeblick viewpoint above the Lodge am Krippenstein, which offers a great view of the glacier, and from there you can continue on to the 5 Fingers.

An interesting detail is the signs placed around the perimeter of the platform, showing the direction and distance to far-off places all over the world, such as Prague, Machu Picchu, or Kamchatka. There are also wooden loungers, making it a pleasant spot for a longer break, not just a quick photo. Even though it’s a short stop, we can highly recommend it when visiting Krippenstein.
