You will start today by arriving at the campsite, and thus travelling from the Czech Republic to Austria. The journey from Prague will take you around five and a half hours, and you will be able to check in at the campsite from 13:00, which is ideal. In the afternoon, you'll be exploring the area, eating in a great restaurant and relaxing at the campsite in the evening.
The Achensee is the largest lake in the Austrian Tyrol, surrounded by the Alps and is a popular destination for nature lovers with plenty of activities.
The lake attracts with its crystal clear water, ideal for swimming, sailing, windsurfing and other water sports, and offers the possibility of relaxing boat trips.
There are picturesque lakeside villages nearby, such as Pertisau, which is ideal for hiking and cycling with spectacular views of the lake and surrounding mountains. We recommend the beautiful 10 km circuit to the Zwölferkopf hill, with a delicious restaurant at the top with traditional Austrian cuisine. If you’re into road cycling or inline skating, there are beautiful cycle paths around more than half of the lake.
The Achensee Golf Club provides a unique golf experience with spectacular views of the Alps and the lake. For those looking for relaxation, there are wellness and spa centres offering a wide range of relaxation treatments and therapies. We recommend the Atoll Achensee holiday resort, which can be used in summer but also in winter. In winter, the Achensee turns into a winter paradise for skiers and snowboarders with many ski slopes and cross-country trails, such as right in Pertisau.
For history buffs, the Tiroler Steinöl Vitalberg Museum in Pertisau tells the story of the extraction and use of local shale oil. The Karwendel Nature Park offers the opportunity to observe the local flora and fauna and enjoy the beauty of unspoilt nature an hour’s drive from Achensee. For the more adventurous there is the option of paragliding or climbing on the surrounding peaks.
All this makes Achensee the ideal place for your active holiday with or without a motorhome.

The campsite is located right on the beautiful Lake Achensee with plenty of leisure activities and shopping opportunities in the immediate vicinity. Countless trekking and walking opportunities in the surrounding area. From the campsite you are only 100 m to the beach with a children’s playground and only 250 m to the boat dock. There is also a small supermarket directly opposite.
There is everything you need for weekend or long-term camping. Electricity connection is possible at each site. The whole campsite is really clean and well maintained, where only the sanitary facilities are cleaned several times a day. There is also a washing machine, dryer or freezer. There is one restaurant on site and several others within walking distance.
Stay at Camping Wimmer and choose the best place. It’s up to you whether it’s as close as possible to the lake or closer to the sanitary facilities. The campsite is divided into two main sections. If you want to secure your place in advance, we recommend booking it on the campsite’ s website.

Eben am Achensee • $$
Excellent restaurant with traditional Austrian cuisine and beautiful lake views. The restaurant is located right next to the road, with parking and a large outside terrace.
After settling in at the campsite, head out to explore the lake surroundings. You’ll have to drive on flat ground to the northern part of the lake. On the way you will meet, in our opinion, the best restaurant in the Achensee area, the Bergkristall. From the restaurant you will continue north, and then return, so it’s up to you whether you stop there now or on the way back. If you have bikes with you, we definitely recommend going on them. You’ll be on the bike path and walking trail the whole way anyway.

At this point you can rest on a bench, take some nice photos or just enjoy the views and continue on the trail.

Here you will find a very spacious natural swimming pool next to Lake Achensee with free admission. There are changing rooms, bathrooms and toilets. The access points to the lake are very nicely and sensibly designed. You will find large grassy areas where you can sunbathe and relax. There is also an adventure playground for children or a volleyball court for the elderly. It is possible to rent boats. There is also a refreshment kiosk nearby with good prices. If you are hungry, you can visit the restaurant at the nearby campsite.
This beautiful beach and lake are your main attractions for the day. If it’s warm, be sure to remember your swimsuit and enjoy a swim in the clear and refreshing water of Lake Achensee. If you’re not in the mood for swimming, feel free to take a walk up to this spot, which follows a path beside the lake and offers some beautiful views and idyllic photo spots. The entire route from the campsite is 9 km long and will take you approximately two hours. However, you will be walking mainly on flat ground the whole time. As mentioned, if you have bikes, make sure you get on them. There is a bike path all along the route and it will take you about 40 minutes of relaxing cycling.

If you have the bikes with you, even the way back won’t be a problem. If you don’t feel like walking anymore, no problem. From the beach you can easily reach the campsite by regular bus, which runs around Achensee. Bus stop number 4080 is 600 metres from the swimming pool and is called Achenkirch, Abzw. Achensee. The ride takes 10 minutes, getting off right in front of the campsite at the Maurach, Buchau stop.
