Day 1

Magical places and architecture

The first day takes you to the places where film sets come to life, while discovering the beautiful architecture of London. From magical to historic locations.

Upon arrival at Luton Airport, you will be transferred to central London. The easiest way to get there is to take the Thameslink direct train, which will take you to St Pancras Station in around 40 minutes. From there, just hop on the Victoria line and get off at Westminster station a few stops later.

54.8 km (1 hour 15 mins)

It’s a short walk to the first stop, Horse Guards Avenue. At first glance, an ordinary London street. But this is where, in the world of Harry Potter, the entrance to the Ministry of Magic is hidden! The atmosphere is sure to quickly engulf you. Here we met young fans with wands and in costume, ready to pose in this important place.

1

Horse Guards Avenue

London

Horse Guards Avenue is an unassuming London street, but it has its own charm. Located close to iconic sites such as Trafalgar Square and the Ministry of Defence building, its elegant atmosphere makes it a must-see for anyone who enjoys a quiet corner of the big city.

It will be familiar to Harry Potter fans because this is where you will find the entrance to the Ministry of Magic.

1.3 km (18 mins)

Sticking with the “important” buildings, your next steps will be towards Australia house. The elegant building with its marble columns catches the eye at first glance. And it’s what served as the exterior of Gringotts Bank in the movies.

Although now home to the Australian High Commission, the building still retains a charm that makes it easy to find yourself on Cross Street, just steps from the world of magic.

2

Australia House: the Gringotts Bank

Australian High Commission, Strand, London, Velká Británie

Australia House, located on Strand Street, is one of the most impressive government buildings in London.

3.5 km (29 mins)

You can take the metro to the next magical stops – coincidentally, these are well-known train stations. Hop on the Picadilly line and take it all the way to Kings Cross. This station is home to the iconic Platform 9¾, where you’ll find a trolley disappearing into the wall and a gift shop. It’s not worth it for photos or shopping due to the huge queues, so you’re better off taking a stroll and soaking up the local atmosphere.

3

Kings Cross Station

London

Kings Cross is one of London’s most famous stations and a very important transport hub. The beautifully modernised interior combines history and modernity.

For Harry Potter fans, this place is known as the legendary Platform 9¾. Inside the station you will find a symbolic installation – a trolley that disappears into the wall. But if you’re planning a visit to Warner Bros Studios, we recommend skipping the queue for a photo at the trolley. There are more trolleys in the studios, the queues are shorter and the photo experience is all the more enjoyable. You’ll also find the official magic gift shop nearby.

0.2 km (3 mins)

You’ve already seen the interior of the train station, now let’s take a look at the exterior. Take a short walk to St. Pancras Station. A beautiful building with a gothic facade, familiar to Harry Potter fans as the exterior where Harry and Ron took off in the flying car in the Chamber of Secrets.

4

St. Pancras

London

Next to King’s Cross is the magnificent St. Pancras International building. In the world of Harry Potter, it played outdoors when Harry and Ron took off in a flying car in The Chamber of Secrets. In addition to its magical history, St. Pancras is also the departure point for Eurostar trains to Paris or Brussels, and offers a variety of shops and restaurants that make it an ideal stop for travelers and architecture lovers alike.

1.1 km (17 mins)

Walk to Claremont Square in about a quarter of an hour. This quiet square is lined with ordinary terraced houses that served as the exterior of the Order of the Phoenix headquarters. You won’t find any magical doors here, which may be disappointing for some. However, for fans who want to experience the atmosphere of a magical hideaway, it’s worth a visit.

5

Claremont Square

London

Claremont Square is a quiet and unassuming square near central London. Although it appears to be just another residential corner of the city, Harry Potter fans know it as the exterior of House 12, the secret headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix. The square is a private residential area, so access to the houses is limited. It’s a quiet spot away from the busy centre that will please those looking for less touristy but still interesting spots.

2.5 km (34 mins)

If you’re in the mood for a “non-magical” stop, don’t miss the Barbican Centre. This complex, full of young artists and creative energy, is the perfect place to relax for a while. Open to all, you can sit in a local café, explore the interesting architecture or just soak up the hustle and bustle of this cultural hub.

6

Barbican Centre

London

The Barbican Centre is one of London’s most important cultural centres. Located in the City of London, the Barbican offers not only space for theatre, concerts, exhibitions and film screenings, but also pleasant outdoor areas for walking. The centre’s environment is teeming with young artists, students and visitors who come here to gain inspiration or just to relax. There are also cafés where you can enjoy a coffee and green spaces that contrast surprisingly well with the concrete lines of the buildings.

1.5 km (20 mins)

Leadenhall Market is one of the most beautiful places in London, and Harry Potter fans will recognise the inspiration for Cross Street and the location where some scenes from the first film were shot.

Visit this iconic market and stroll along the boutiques, cafes and restaurants that now fill its space. It’s not only a great place for fans, but also the perfect stop for lunch or coffee in one of the most glamorous corners of London.

7

Leadenhall Market: Cross Street

London

A hidden treasure in the City of London, this is one of the city’s most beautiful Victorian marketplaces. Today it’s home to stylish boutiques, cafes and restaurants.

However, Leadenhall Market has a special significance for Harry Potter fans – it was here that some scenes such as Cross Street and the entrance to the Leaky Cauldron in the first film were filmed. Although it is not in its original form from the film today, the atmosphere of the market easily transports you to the wizarding world.

1.4 km (19 mins)

You will end your journey at the iconic Millennium Bridge. One of London’s most famous bridges connects St Paul’s Cathedral and the Tate Modern. Its minimalist design and beautiful views of the Thames make it a popular spot for tourists and locals alike.

For Harry Potter fans, the bridge is famous from the movie The Half-Blood Prince, where it was a victim of Death Eaters.

8

Millennium Bridge

London

The Millennium Bridge is an elegant pedestrian bridge over the River Thames in London. The bridge is freely accessible to pedestrians and connects Bankside with the historic city centre. The bridge is a modern structure that has become an iconic symbol of London. Its steel structure and wooden floor slabs create a harmonious impression.

It was officially opened on 10 June 2000, but after 3 days it was closed because it was “wobbling” and swaying a bit. The bridge was finally reopened in February 2002.

The bridge is definitely worth a visit, but be aware of the ubiquitous tourists. We can also recommend St. Paul’s Cathedral, which is easily accessible via the bridge.

1.3 km (18 mins)

For dinner, pop into Honest Burgers – as burger lovers, we found it a great place to get one of the best burgers in London. It gets a bit crowded at times, but you can always fit it in somehow, and it’s definitely worth the wait. The fries are homemade, the atmosphere is relaxed and the portions are just right so you eat well but don’t leave feeling like a ball. The perfect end to the day.
