Basilica di San Miniato

The Basilica of San Miniato al Monte is one of the most important religious buildings in Florence and one of the most important examples of Romanesque architecture in Italy. Located on top of a hill above the Arno River, it is considered one of the best places in the city to admire the panoramic view of the city.

The basilica was built on the site where, according to legend, Saint Miniato was executed in the 3rd century. Construction began in the 11th century and was completed during the 13th century.

One of the most striking features of the basilica is its marble façade, which is characterised by its rich decoration and architectural details. Inside, you will find magnificent frescoes and mosaics decorating the walls and ceilings. It is also known for its historical and religious importance.

But this place is also unique because of the stairs and the view of the city. You’ll find a lot of people here, especially in the evening, watching the sunset. If you’re passing by, it’s definitely worth a stop. It’s also a short walk from the basilica to Piazzale Michelangelo.
