The Cappella della Madonna di Vitaleta is a chapel hidden among the picturesque hills of Tuscany. It is also one of the most important examples of medieval sacred architecture in Italy. Located near the town of San Quirico d’Orcia, it is not only an architectural gem but also an important cultural monument of Tuscany’s rich history.
The chapel was built in the 15th century and is known for its elegant architectural style, typical of the Tuscan Renaissance. Its small size and simplicity give it a special charm, while the richly decorated façade and the unique vault made of several thousand stone tablets immortalise the mastery of the medieval builders.
One of the most striking elements of the chapel is the statue of the Virgin Mary, which is located in the sanctuary in the middle of the chapel. This statue, known as the Madonna di Vitaleta, is the work of the famous Italian sculptor Andrea della Robbia. It is an identical copy of the original, which was moved to the museum to protect it from damage.
