Corniglia is one of the five picturesque villages that make up the famous Cinque Terre area on the north-west coast of Italy in the Liguria region. Unlike its sister villages, Corniglia sits atop a steep cliff and is not directly accessible from the sea, giving it a unique character. The village is connected to the surrounding villages by both rail and footpaths and is only a few kilometres away from them. Visitors can arrive here by train, the most popular mode of transport in the Cinque Terre, and then climb the long staircase from the station to the village or use the local bus.
Corniglia is quieter and less crowded than its more touristy neighbours, making it the perfect place for those looking to escape the crowds. Despite its isolation, Corniglia has much to offer. Here you can enjoy beautiful views of the Ligurian Sea, stroll through the narrow streets surrounded by ancient houses or visit the small square with the church of St. Peter. There are also several bars and restaurants in the village where you can taste local wine and specialities. For nature lovers, there are walks in the surrounding vineyards or walking trails that lead, for example, to the viewpoint of the neighbouring villages of Vernazza and Manarola. Corniglia is therefore a peaceful but fascinating place to visit and offers a unique experience of the Cinque Terre.
