Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon

This 100 metre deep and 2 kilometre long canyon is one of the most famous and beautiful in Iceland. The river Fjaðrá flows through it, which gives the canyon its name.

There is a small parking lot at the beginning of the route, but cars park on the side of the road. There is a hiking trail along the canyon, which is surrounded by a fence, but the canyon itself is inaccessible. There are several viewing platforms along the trail. The trail is slightly uphill, but it is not difficult, it is about 2.4 km in total and will take you about an hour with stops for photos.

In 2015, Justin Bieber filmed a music video for his song I’ll Show You here. Unfortunately, however, this mainly contributed to the authorities being forced to close the area for several months to allow the vegetation to recover from the onslaught of tourists.
