Katschberg, a mountain town and smaller ski resort of the same name in the Austrian Alps, is an exceptional destination for passionate winter sports enthusiasts. The area is known for its quality ski runs and excellent skiing conditions. With extensive slopes and modern infrastructure, Katschberg provides the ideal environment for skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels. The season here usually runs from December to April, allowing visitors to enjoy a long period of winter fun.
In addition to skiing, the Katschberg offers a wide range of other winter activities, including cross-country skiing, tobogganing and snowshoeing. The beautiful mountain landscape provides an impressive backdrop for all activities, whether you are a beginner or an experienced athlete. After an adrenaline-filled day, you can relax in the cosy mountain chalets and sample traditional Austrian cuisine in the local restaurants.
Katschberg also has the advantage of its altitude. The lowest point of the town is over 1,600 m above sea level, which means that there will be no shortage of snow here almost all winter. Besides, we can also recommend Katschberg because of its location near the Austrian autobahn, which is only about 15 minutes away. It’s then about 10 minutes to the larger town of Sankt Michael im Lungau, where all amenities are available, including many larger shops and a golf course for summer fun.
Good to know
Parking
As we recommend Katschberg more for winter holidays, you will probably have to arrange parking together with your accommodation. However, if you’re only coming to this place for a “turn around”, be sure to use one of the many large car parks right next to the lifts.
Skiing
Katschberg has been a popular destination for Czech skiers in recent years. However, this does not mean that you have to queue. We have visited Katschberg several times and have always been satisfied with the quality of the slopes, the service – simply everything. Tips for accommodation
In our experience, we can highly recommend the hotel Das Alpenhaus Katschberg 1640, which is located right on the slopes. As such, the hotel offers spacious and well-equipped apartments where you can take your dog, a restaurant, a swimming pool and several saunas. For us, the obvious choice.
