Place description

Lake Bohinj is the largest natural lake in Slovenia and is located in the heart of the Triglav National Park. The lake is 4100 metres long, 1200 metres wide at its widest point and up to 45 metres deep. It is famous for its clear water and is surrounded by the impressive Julian Alps.

It is very popular with tourists because it is a great starting point for trekking around the area, in summer you can swim here, the water is around 20 degrees. If it’s too cold for you, you can try a boat trip on the lake. There is also the beautiful Savica waterfall nearby, which is well worth a visit.

In addition, the Vogel Peak towers above the lake and is reached by a cable car with a one-kilometre elevation gain. From this peak, you have probably the best view of the lake as a whole. So if you’re in the area, make sure you go to the top after a swim.
