Obersee

The Obersee is an unspoilt lake on the border between East and South Tyrol. The lake is located in Austria just after the mountain pass Passo Stalle (Staller Sattel) on the border between Austria and Italy. The lake rises up to 2052 metres above sea level, so expect a pleasant climate in summer, but don’t forget a warm jacket outside the high season. Please note that the pass is open to traffic from May until the end of October, from 5:30 am to 10:15 pm. Due to the limited road width on the Italian side, passage is only allowed in one direction, controlled by traffic lights. The roads from Austria to Italy are always open from the beginning to the 15th minute of every hour, while the roads back to Austria are open from the 30th to the 45th minute of every hour. The passage of buses and vehicles with caravans is prohibited. However, if you have an integrated motorhome you will not have a problem with passage.

At Lake Obersee, the Alpengasthaus Obersee is a really great restaurant serving Tyrolean cuisine with a beautiful view and the lake. There are plenty of parking spaces around the lake and the restaurant, and although caravans are not allowed on some of them, you can certainly find a place to park. There are countless opportunities for beautiful mountain treks in the surrounding area, or a peaceful walk around the lake. We recommend this area mainly for its tranquility and really low tourism. Therefore, you can enjoy the lake in complete tranquility surrounded by incredible nature.

The Brunnalm Ski Resort is located in this area and can be reached by free ski bus from the nearby Austrian town of St. Jakob.

On the other side in Italy, there is also the beautiful Lake Anterselva, or Lake Antholzer, which is also known for its crystal clear water and pristine nature.
