The Path of the Gods, known as the Sentiero degli Dei, is one of the most fascinating hiking trails on the Amalfi Coast. This scenic route starts in the quiet village of Bomerano and ends in the beautiful town of Positano, famous for its beaches and colourful houses clinging to the cliffs. The whole route is approximately 7 to 8 kilometres long and can be walked at a leisurely pace in three to four hours, making it an ideal tip for a day trip.
As you wander, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the azure sea, dramatic rocky cliffs and green hills that open up at every turn. The scenery is so beautiful you’ll want to keep stopping to take photos. So be sure to bring plenty of water – about a quarter of the way along, you’ll come across a fountain where you can refill your water supply. There is also the picturesque village of Nocelle, halfway along, where there is often a stall selling homemade lemonade – a nice and refreshing stop to keep you going.
Comfortable and sturdy footwear is an absolute must on this hike, as the trail is rocky and challenging in places. We also recommend packing your own lunch – you will find restaurants and other refreshment places in Positano, where the trail ends. And don’t miss your camera, because every step of the way opens up new views that you’ll want to keep in your memory and beyond.
After completing this beautiful trail, you will arrive in Positano, where you can relax on one of the beautiful beaches and refresh yourself in the sea – the perfect reward after a physically demanding but unforgettable journey.
The Trail of the Gods is not just a hiking route – it’s an experience full of beautiful nature, stunning views and the atmosphere of a true Italian Riviera.
The road to Bomerana:
To get to Bomerano from Naples, take the Circumvesuviana train from Napoli Garibaldi station, which will take you to Castellammare di Stabia. There you change to bus number 5080, which stops right outside the station in Piazza Unità d’Italia. You will get off at Piazza P. Capasso, which is the centre of Bomerano.
If you are coming from Sorrento, you will take the Circumvesuviana train to the Castellammare di Stabia stop. From there, change to bus number 5080, which will take you directly to the centre of Bomerano.
Return from Positano:
From Positano you can return to Sorrento or Naples either by boat, tickets for which can be purchased online at Direct Ferries, or by bus for around €5. However, during high season the bus is very busy and there are often no seats available, so the boat is more reliable, although it tends to be more expensive. If you can’t fit on the bus, there are often taxis behind it, which cost around 15 euros per person to Sorrento, where you can then continue by train directly to Naples.
