Place description

Our trek in Parco Naturale Puez Odle had a clear goal – a mountain hut run by the Messner family. Our starting point was Rifugio Zannes, where we left the car in the paid parking lot. After a gradual forest climb, the first mountain peaks began to appear in front of us. After we emerged from the forest we could just enjoy the magnificent views of the valley. Before we reached the RG we passed one more mountain hut.

The cooking at Rifugio Genova is incredible. We had boar stew and classic Tyrolean broth with dumplings. Then you can walk a few metres above the hut to the cross. And we’d recommend going with a full belly, because the views in all directions from the cross are really worth it. The trek from the Rifugio Zannes car park to the cross and back took just under 4 hours including stops for snacks. The total length of the trail is 12,5 km. The hut is usually open until mid-October.
