Svartifoss is one of the most interesting waterfalls in Iceland, especially because its background consists of basalt prisms that resemble the pipes of an organ. Moreover, the waterfall is tastefully hidden in nature, among trees, which are not so common in Iceland after all. In addition, there is an easily accessible plateau right near the waterfall, from which you have a beautiful view of the waterfall.
There is a hiking trail uphill from the car park and visitor centre to the waterfall, which is approximately 1.6 km long (about 45 minutes), and then you return the same way. The hike is a bit more challenging, but the hike and especially the destination are really worth it. Right next to the visitor centre you will also find a campsite with fully equipped facilities.
