Place description
Villa Torlonia is one of the most picturesque yet least visited parks in Rome. Located on the elegant Via Nomentana, it is the perfect retreat for a quiet morning away from the hustle and bustle of the city. You can stroll among the centuries-old trees, sit on a bench or enjoy an al fresco breakfast at a local café.
The park is open daily from 7am and its extensive gardens hold several surprises. The dominant feature of the grounds is the former aristocratic residence of the Casino Nobile, later the residence of Mussolini, which today works as a museum with richly decorated halls and art collections. A little further on, you’ll come across the Casina delle Civette, a fairy-tale-looking villa full of colourful stained-glass windows with owl motifs that resembles a fantasy house rather than real architecture. The exotic Serra Moresky building and the adjacent Torre Moresca tower add to the oriental feel.
If you are into art, history or just a quiet place to relax, Villa Torlonia will not disappoint you. Whether you’re here for the architecture, a picnic or a cup of coffee, this Roman gem is sure to enchant.
