Zwölferhorn Seilbahn

The Zwölferhorn Seilbahn is a cable car that leads to the mountain of the same name, which rises 1,521 metres above sea level above the town of St. Gilgen and Lake Wolfgangsee. It is a popular destination for both summer and winter holidays. The summer option, however, offers plenty of options for where to go from this mountain. There is, for example, the Panorama Circular Trail with its many stops and viewpoints. Detailed information about this trail and more can be found on the official website of the area.

But back to the cable car itself. It leads to the top directly from the centre of St. Gilgen, where you can park for free. That is, provided you buy a ticket and make it back within 4 hours of arrival. You can also take your dog on the cable car, but be aware that a muzzle is required, which the locals really want to see (fitted).

Be prepared, however, that the cable car ride is not a cheap affair. Our spring visit with a round trip cost us about 80 EUR, and there are various discounts for families with children. Of course, you can also save money by choosing only one direction – but the weather plays a role. But if you’re a bit luckier than us, you’ll probably be able to make at least one trip. During our visit at the end of April 2024, it wasn’t just the summit that was covered in snow clouds, with visibility only a few metres ahead. Therefore, we wish you more luck with your choice of dates than we had!
