When is the best time to visit Scotland?

In general, Scotland is a destination you can go to pretty much any time. Of course, everyone will recommend the summer months in particular, when the weather is most likely to be good and it’s high season. We’d argue for spring or autumn, on the other hand, when the weather is still nice, often less crowded and the prices more affordable.

And whether you’re visiting cities like Edinburgh or the countryside, these places are sure to be just as great in spring and autumn.

How expensive is it in Scotland?

In Scotland, as part of the United Kingdom, payment is in sterling. Its exchange rate has been around £30 in recent years and it can be confirmed that Scotland is one of the more expensive destinations. Not so much in terms of flights or accommodation, but rather food and services. For example, for an average lunch or dinner you will pay around 400 – 600 CZK for one, which is simply more compared to the Czech Republic.

Even in more expensive destinations, however, it is possible to save money, either on food or when travelling outside the high season, when accommodation prices tend to be slightly higher.

How many days do I need to explore?

For this question, it very much depends on what you mean by “explore”. You can explore Edinburgh or similarly large cities in 2 – 3 days, i.e. a (long) weekend, but you’ll need more time for nature and the coast in general. For these types of trips we recommend at least a week.

Do I need cash in Scotland?

In most cases, no. Almost every shop, restaurant or café offers the option to pay by card.

Is there drinking water in Scotland?

Yes, the tap water is drinkable.
