Anaga

Anaga is a mountain range in the northeast of the island and is known for its incredible biodiversity and beautiful landscape. A significant part of the mountain range is protected as the so-called Parque Rural de Anaga and it is this area that has been declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve for its rich natural heritage.

Anaga is easily accessible from the capital city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and takes about 20 minutes by car. You can also get there by public transport, specifically by bus, which is operated by TITSA. However, if you have a motorbike license and can also rent one, we recommend you go to Anaga on it. The ride will absolutely mesmerise you and offer views you won’t be able to get enough of.

In terms of activities, Anaga offers a range of options. One of the main attractions is hiking and trekking along the many hiking trails that lead through beautiful forests and offer breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and the sea. Popular routes include the path to Roque de las Bodegas, one of the most famous points in Anaga.

In addition to tourism, Anaga is also home to several small authentic villages, such as the outermost Taganana, Benijo, and Almáciga, where you can enjoy local gastronomy and experience traditional Canarian culture.

We also recommend going all the way to the end of the world (the island), we recommend going to the Chamorga area, from where it’s just a walk to the coast and the Faro de Anaga lighthouse. It is in the village of Chamorga that you can enjoy one of the best traditional drinks, the barraquito.

Another interesting feature of Anaga is its diverse ecosystems and rich flora and fauna, including the laurisilva, a rare type of humid subtropical forest that is home to many endemic species of plants and animals.
