Place description

Byrampen may be small, but it is one of the best views of Ålesund. You can enjoy a breathtaking view of the city surrounded by the sea and the peaks.

For those who prefer convenience, it is possible to drive and park for a limited time for free. For walkers, the ideal place to start is at the city park, where the walk up to the viewpoint involves climbing 418 steps and should take about 10 minutes at a leisurely pace with a few short breaks. If you don’t want to walk on your own, you can use the regular bus service.

We recommend visiting the viewpoint in the evening and enjoying the magical sunset, where you will meet people enjoying the atmosphere, beer or live music.

Don’t forget your blanket and camera, because the panorama is breathtaking. There’s a restaurant and pay toilets nearby, but the paid view doesn’t offer anything extra compared to Byrampen, so you’d better save your money and treat yourself to something good in town.

Parking

There is parking directly in the small car park at the viewpoint, which you will not miss. Just continue to the top. Parking is limited to a maximum of 60 minutes, which should be enough time to enjoy the views and take a short walk around the viewpoint.

Refreshments

Right next to the car park is Fjellstua Restaurant with a wonderful view. We didn’t try the food so we can’t recommend it, but if you’re hungry, the views are definitely worth it.
