The Dvorecký Bridge, which Prague has been waiting for for decades, was finally officially opened in mid-April 2026 after four years of construction. This new link across the Vltava connects the banks between Lihovar in Smíchov and Dvorce in Podolí. At first glance, the bridge catches the eye with its clean, white design, which is meant to reference Czech Cubism and fits surprisingly naturally into the riverside landscape. The bridge is unique mainly due to its traffic rules—it is intended exclusively for trams, buses, cyclists, pedestrians, and emergency services. Private cars are not allowed, making it a vital artery primarily for Prague’s public transport.
In our opinion, the bridge is a real success, and connecting the banks at this spot is absolutely logical and great. The views of Vyšehrad or the Barrandov Rocks are fantastic from here, and the bridge overall feels very light and modern. On the other hand, we were a bit taken aback by the layout of the bike path during our first visit. It seems quite poorly thought out because cyclists and pedestrians basically mix in one space without any clear separation. Given how popular this spot is bound to be for both walks and rides, it could get quite complicated in the future.
We were also a little disappointed that the planned “attractions” under and around the bridge weren’t finished for the opening. On the Smíchov side, we’re looking forward to the collection of street lamps from all over the world, and in Podolí, we can’t wait for the seating area with sculptures by Kryštof Kintera and a nice café. Currently, these areas look more like a construction site, which spoils the overall impression a bit for such a significant opening. Hopefully, the promises will be kept and we’ll see it all completed during 2026. Even so, we recommend going to see the bridge; that new view of Prague is worth it.
The view of the bridge from “above” is also great, either from Dívčí hrady or Kavčí hory.
We’ll be happy to create a personalized itinerary.
