Do you like historic cities? Visit Olomouc. One day is enough to discover all the sights. But we recommend staying overnight, wandering the streets and enjoying the rich gastronomic culture. As a first destination, choose Upper Square – It’s a living museum of the past and the centre of all things Olomouc. It’s lined with historic buildings in Renaissance and Baroque style, many fountains with mythological scenes and a Haná version of the astronomical clock. The Upper Square on the south-west side flows into the Lower Square, dominated by the monumental Baroque Holy Trinity Column, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Don’t miss the spiritual treasures of the city, including the Church of St. Moritz with its lookout tower, St. Michael’s Cathedral and especially St. Wenceslas Cathedral, which belongs to the national cultural monument of the Premyslid Castle. In the immediate vicinity of this exceptional cathedral stands the Archdiocesan Museum, which includes the rare Romanesque Bishop’s Palace

You can relax in the gardens of the Smetana and Bezruč Gardens. If the weather is nice, we recommend sitting on the grass with a blanket and having a picnic. Or take it straight to the Long Story Short a remarkable place for people to meet. There are often street food events, talks, concerts and so on. Next to Long Story Short is a summer cinema. Film screenings in the large amphitheatre of the summer cinema take place regularly every Tuesday and Thursday from around 9pm during the summer season (approx May – September).

Local cafés and restaurants offer the opportunity to taste traditional Olomouc cuisine. Here you will find a shop selling Olomoucké tvarůžky, as well as other specialities such as pear muffins, pukáče, Haná fingers, tróč and cakes with crumble. For a good coffee in hand and a walk, we recommend a stop in piccolo espresso bar and for a longer stay and dessert, visit Café na cucky. For a brunch that will blow your mind, we recommend going to The Telegraph.
