The heart of picturesque Olomouc pulsates here. All important events – social, cultural and sales – take place on the Upper Square. Christmas markets, Easter markets, gastro festivals, concerts and more. The whole square is lined with historical buildings in Renaissance and Baroque style. The biggest attraction for tourists is the 32-metre high Holy Trinity Column, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Town Hall building with its modern astronomical clock.
Architecture lovers will also be impressed by the Church of St. Moritz, a majestic building with important ceiling frescoes and an altar. You’ll also find several fountains inspired by stories of ancient mythology, often surprising scenes. The Upper Square is connected to the southeast with the Lower Square – the second of the main squares in the city centre. From the names it may seem that the Upper Square is situated higher up, but the opposite is true. On Lower Square stands another important building that symbolises gratitude for the end of the plague epidemic – the Marian Column.
