Krudum

Krudum is a mountain in the Slavkov Forest, which has 3 peaks and, according to linguists, bears a Celtic name. The Celts lived in this area and extracted mineral wealth. This is probably why Krudum is surrounded by many legends and many consider it the most mysterious place in the Slavkov Forest. On one of the peaks of Krudum there is a viewpoint reminiscent of the Eiffel Tower, and this was our destination. The lookout tower is at 836 m above sea level and is worth a run to see the whole Slavkovský les. If the visibility is good, you can also see part of the Ore and Doupov Mountains.

We made the trip a full day trip of about 12 km and we started the tour in the village of Hrušková, from where we headed towards the ruins of St. Nicholas Church, which were only recently discovered. The route leads through very nice nature, along wide forest paths where you can pick blueberries or mushrooms in season. You can reach the foundations of the church by turning off the yellow trail, which leads to the lookout tower. You can walk through the entire ruins. From here you will have a nice view of the Krudum lookout tower on the opposite mountain top. Along the way you will encounter holes dug in the ground, as tin mining used to take place here.

From the signpost below Krudum, a quite steep climb to the viewpoint begins. We do not recommend this part of the trail for strollers. The lookout tower has only been open since 2008. Before that there was a 10 m high lookout tower, but it was demolished in the early 1980s. From the lookout you can take the green trail through the beautiful meadows near the village of Milíře to Hrušková.

You won’t encounter any pubs or water fountains along the way, so have plenty to drink and some snacks.
