Loro Parque

Loro Parque is one of the most famous and most visited places in Tenerife and is located in Puerto de la Cruz. This zoological park covers an area of over 13.5 hectares and is known for its rich collection of exotic animals. The park originally began as a sanctuary for parrots (hence the name “Loro” – Spanish for parrot), but has grown over time and today houses many species of animals from all over the world.Loro Parque is home to killer whales, dolphins, penguins, tigers, gorillas, but most importantly parrots – it has the largest collection of parrots in the world. Penguins can be admired in one of the largest artificial environments that mimics their natural habitat in Antarctica. The local orca pool with killer whales and the dolphinarium are attractions thanks to regular shows that are both entertaining and educational, highlighting the importance of protecting these species.

In addition to the animals, Loro Parque is also famous for its beautiful botanical garden, which is full of tropical plants, palm trees and orchids. The park is also home to the so-called “Katandra Treetops”, a treetop walk where visitors can see different species of birds in their natural habitat.

While we are not fans of captive animal behavior, Loro Parque is not your typical zoo. It’s also heavily involved in conservation and sustainability. It is home to the Loro Parque Foundation, an organization dedicated to the conservation of endangered species and ecology that has so far invested millions of euros in various projects around the world.
