Runde, a small island on the west coast of Norway, is a gem that takes you to a world of endless beauty and wild nature.
The island is home to more than 500,000 seabirds, including the rare puffin. These colourful birds are known for their unique appearance and can be seen here, especially during their breeding season from February to August. Organised tours offer you a unique opportunity to observe puffins and other birds up close and learn a lot of interesting information about them. But you can also go on your own and if you choose the right time, you will definitely see puffins.
You can use the ferry or a car to get to Runde Island. The driveway is sure to delight you with breathtaking views of the fjords and mountains. The Runde Bridge connects the island to Remøya in the south. Runde has a population of 113 people, which means that there are almost 5,000 seabirds per inhabitant.
For those arriving by car, Runde Island offers plenty of parking options. The information centre on the island is a great place to learn more about the local bird life and other flora and fauna. Here you can also relax or have a meal, with a wide range of snacks and local specialities on offer. The information centre also provides maps and information on the best walking routes, so you can plan your trip according to your wishes and interests. Clean public toilets or showers are also available for a fee.
