Teide National Park is a landmark in Tenerife and offers stunning natural scenery. In the centre of the park is the highest mountain in Spain, the Teide volcano. You can take the road to the car park at the bottom station of the cable car, which is at an altitude of about 2356 metres. From here you can continue on foot or take the cable car. The cable car will take you from this base station to La Rambleta, which is 3,555 metres above sea level. The cable car ride takes approximately 8 minutes and offers spectacular views of the surrounding volcanic landscape. From the top station you can then walk to two viewpoints, La Fortaleza and Pico Viejo, which are relatively close to the top station and the route to them is fairly straight and easy. There are several hiking trails at the top of the cable car, including the popular Telesforo Bravo trail, which leads to the crater of the Teide volcano itself. However, this part of the route requires a special permit, which must be obtained in advance, and is limited to certain time slots.
If you choose to hike, it is more challenging but also a very rewarding experience. The walk from Montaña Blanca to the top of Teide takes about 5 to 6 hours.
Public transport in the park includes bus routes 342 and 348, which stop in different parts of the park and allow visitors to explore the area more easily. In addition, there are two visitor centres in the park, El Portillo and Cañada Blanca, where you can pick up maps of the park and obtain further information.
Stargazing in Tenerife’s Teide National Park is one of the most popular activities due to the low light pollution and high altitude. This activity is best enjoyed by organized night tours or astronomical tours that include a visit to the Teide Observatory.
Driving around the national park is an experience in itself. You can enjoy it in a car, on a motorbike or even on a bicycle if you’re experienced. You can admire the incredible lunar landscape that alternates with green with views of the ocean. We recommend the most scenic drive, TF-24.
