Although with its 638 m above sea level it is not one of the highest mountains in the Czech Republic, it is of indispensable importance for our nation. We are talking about Velké Blaník, the symbol of the modern Czech nation. It is no wonder that one of the foundation stones for the construction of the National Theatre was quarried from here in 1868.
The memorial mountain Velký Blaník has always been a symbol of hope and faith in a better future. It is the site of many interesting legends and legends, the most famous of which speaks of the mythical Blaník knights resting inside the mountain, who will come to the rescue when the Czech nation is at its worst.
On the top of Blaník there is a 30-metre high lookout tower, which was built in 2002. The lookout tower offers a breathtaking view of the wide surroundings, including the landscape of the Central Bohemian Region. From its top, you can see not only Mount Blaník itself, but also many other famous places such as Kutná Hora, Vlašim or Sázava. In good conditions you can also see more distant places such as the Brdy Mountains or the ridges of the Novohradské hory.
The road to Blaník from Louňovice pod Blaníkem:
There are several different routes available for tourists who decide to visit Blaník. The most frequently chosen route leads from the Louňovice pod Blaníkem parking lot – the crossroads. We also chose this route during our several-day walking tour along the Czech Way (Pilgrimage Route Blaník – Říp).
Walking route: from the car park follow the red hiking trail towards the top of Blaník. The trail is not too difficult and is suitable for families with children. The roughly 4 km long route will take you through beautiful nature and lead you to the lookout tower at the top of Blaník.
Below the peak you will find the remains of massive ramparts – a former Celtic fortress. It is even possible that a wooden castle stood here in the Middle Ages.
We’ll be happy to create a personalized itinerary.
