Slovenia is one of the most rewarding destinations in Europe for photographers and drone enthusiasts. It offers incredible diversity, from Alpine peaks to emerald rivers to the Adriatic coast, all in a very small area. However, in 2026, even here you must prepare for the fact that the rules for flying near natural gems are taken very seriously.

Rules for drones in Slovenia (2026)

Slovenia fully follows EASA legislation, which means that if you have an operator’s registration and insurance from the European country, you can legally take off here. Standard obligations apply:

Registration and marking: the drone must be marked with your identification number.
Maximum height: the limit is 120 metres above the ground.
No-fly zones: Slovenia has a very well-designed map of restrictions (we recommend the Slovenia Drone app), which strictly guards especially national parks and the surroundings of airports.
Triglav National Park: flying in Slovenia’s only national park is prohibited without prior permission. This also applies to iconic places such as Lake Bohinj or the Soca Valley in its upper part.

Where to go for the best shots?

Despite certain limitations, Slovenia offers sites that look absolutely divine from a bird’s eye view:

Lake Bled: Probably the most photographed place in Slovenia. The good news is that you can fly over the lake, but with great respect. You must not fly directly over people and avoid taking off from the immediate vicinity of the castle. It is best to take off from one of the surrounding hills (e.g. Mala Osojnica), from where you can catch a glimpse of the island with the church and the Alps in the background.
The town of Piran: Pearl of the Slovenian coast. From above, its unique triangular shape and red roofs stand out in contrast to the blue Adriatic. Beware of the tight buildings and narrow streets – we recommend taking off from the walls.
The ossuary in KobaridDescription : The Italian War Memorial (Sacrario militare di Caporetto) consists of three concentric circles on a hill above the town. From the drone, its symmetry and commemorative atmosphere stand out against the backdrop of the mountains.
Surroundings of the Soca RiverA: If you are outside the boundaries of the national park (e.g. in the vicinity of Tolmin or Most na Soca), you can catch the incredible turquoise colour of the river as it meanders through the limestone bed.
Hidden tip – Laghi di Fusine: Near Slovenia, just a short distance from the border, is a pair of lakes known as Laghi di Fusine. Here, too, you can fly a drone and the shots of the lake with the mountains in the background are incredible.
