Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse is one of the most famous lighthouses in Western Australia, located on the cape of the same name, about 13 kilometers from the town of Dunsborough. Built in 1903, this lighthouse is still operational but also serves as a popular tourist attraction thanks to its strategic location offering panoramic views of the Indian Ocean.

Unlike other lighthouses in Australia, Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse is relatively short, measuring only 20 meters, but its position on a high cliff provides stunning views of the surrounding coastline, beaches, and ocean. You can climb to the top as part of a guided tour that reveals the history of the lighthouse and the lives of the keepers who used to work here. The area around the lighthouse is also a great spot for whale watching, especially during the migration season from May to December. Additionally, there are several hiking trails nearby, including the start of the famous Cape to Cape Track, which runs along the coast all the way to Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse.

Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse is an ideal stop for those who want to experience a bit of history, beautiful nature, and unforgettable views. Thanks to its easy access and family-friendly atmosphere, it’s one of the most popular attractions in the Margaret River region.

There’s a parking lot on-site and a small shop where you can buy tickets. There are two types of tickets—entry to the grounds or entry to the grounds plus a lighthouse tour. Since the lighthouse is only 20 meters tall, we chose the first option and went to explore the surroundings, which offer beautiful ocean views. Don’t wear white sneakers—the red sand here is impossible to get out :).
