Frauenberg Pilgrimage Church

The pilgrimage church of Frauenberg an der Enns is a Baroque jewel towering on a 130-metre-high hill above the Enns river valley, only about 6 kilometres from the famous Benedictine Abbey of Admont. This monumental building, which dates back to 1404, is an unmissable landmark visible from many kilometres away thanks to its dominant position. The church’s current appearance dates from the High Baroque period and the interior contains a precious love statue of the Virgin Mary and rich fresco decorations, which are under the care of the Benedictines of Admont.

For us, visiting this place was the perfect stop on our journey through the Gesäuse region. The church offers one of the best panoramic views in Styria – you can see the Enns River Valley, the surrounding limestone peaks and the Admont Monastery in the distance. It’s the perfect destination for a short trip that won’t take too much time but will offer a powerful visual experience. You can leave your car in the free car park just below the summit, from where a gentle path leads just a few dozen metres to the church.
