Place description

The Museum of Light Fortifications at the Soumar Bridge offers a unique insight into the history of Czechoslovak fortifications from the period before World War II. This meticulously reconstructed bunker, known as the Model 37 light fortification, was part of the line of defence that was supposed to protect the republic from the threat of Nazi Germany. Inside the bunker, visitors can see original weaponry, uniforms and other historical artefacts that show the life of soldiers and Czechoslovakia’s defence strategy at the time.

The museum is situated in the Šumava region, which offers an ideal opportunity to combine a visit to the bunker with a trip to the surrounding countryside – especially to the Soumar Peat Bog nature trail. You can find out more about the museum and its creators on the museum’s official website.

Pleasant pub with lovely outdoor seating in beautiful surroundings. Parking is available on the roadside or in the car park below the restaurant. Ordering food is possible at the window. The restaurant offers delicious Czech specialities. We definitely recommend a fair portion of blueberry dumplings.

The dusty parking lot is located right by the Soumarský most railway station, near the boat rental, campground and near the Soumarský peat bog. The car park has a capacity for approximately 15 cars and it is possible to park a longer caravan. Parking is free and available both day and night. Although there is a restaurant and refreshments nearby, the car park does not offer any services.
