Place description

Just a few minutes’ walk from the parking lot at Ida’s Sawmill (Parking lot under Boubin), right on the very edge of the Boubín Forest, you will come across a very emotional and tastefully designed place – the Tree of Souls. This memorial, which you will pass on your way to Boubín Pond, is dedicated to all foresters who lost their lives in the course of their demanding and selfless work.

The memorial commemorates the victims of the forestry profession over the last decades throughout the Czech Republic. Its form is sensitively set in the surrounding landscape and reminds us that the forest was not just a workplace for these people, but their destiny. If you make your way to the pond, be sure to stop by the Tree of Souls for a moment. It’s a place to reflect, which beautifully illustrates respect for the craft and for the nature of Šumava itself.

The car park under Boubin offers plenty of space for visitors to the Boubinský průže. Parking for 100 crowns for the whole day (parking machine at the end of the car park). A large map of the area is available at the beginning of the car park. Opposite the car park there is a hut with refreshments and souvenirs – the gentleman will helpfully advise and explain everything you need to know. There is a memorial at the start of the path, then an info centre in the former IDA sawmill with outdoor seating and swings for children. Then just choose one of the several routes available.
