Soumarské rašeliniště

The Soumarské rašeliniště in Šumava is a popular place for nature lovers and those who want to experience something new and are in the mood for a nice easy walk.

The path is built to respect the fragility of the peatland and minimise the impact on this sensitive environment. The path is wooden, created as a footbridge over the peatland, allowing visitors to walk through the unique habitat without damaging it. The footbridges are safe and suitable for families with children or even strollers.

The entire circuit around the peat bog is approximately 3 km, which means that the walk should take no more than 1.5 hours, depending on the pace of walking and the length of the nature watching stops. Halfway through the circuit, you will be rewarded with a spectacular lower viewpoint. From the observation platform, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire peat bog, forests and distant mountain peaks of Šumava.

You can also relax on benches or picnic tables at the viewpoint.

You can easily reach the Soumar peat bog by car, which you can leave at the nearby car park, or even by train, where you can find the Soumarský Most stop a short distance from the trailhead. In the vicinity of the trail you will also find the Soumarský Most Boat Rental or the Museum of Light Fortification. If you would like to spend the night on site, you can stay at the beautiful Soumarský Most Camp or at nearby guesthouses. You won’t go hungry either. There are several snack bars and restaurants in the area.
