At the top of Pancíř, at an altitude of 1,214 metres above sea level, there is an open door to the Šumava countryside. Literally. The frame together with the wooden door was placed on Pancíř by the We Love Šumava association, which always clears it to “safety” with the first snow and returns it at the beginning of the spring season.
From the door, as from the whole Pancír, you can see the surrounding countryside and if you are a bit luckier than we were, you can see far into the Šumava. However, be aware that especially on weekends or public holidays it is a very popular place where you are likely to meet many other visitors. The place is also very easy to reach, either on foot or by monorail.
You can park either at the lower station of the cable car in Špičák, from where you can take the cable car to the top. An alternative is to park at Hofmanek, an intermediate station, from where it is also a short walk.
