Ribeira de Inferno

Ribeira de Inferno is a short walk around the town of Sao Vicente on the north coast of Madeira. The site can be accessed from the nearby car park (where the walk can easily be combined with the view and waterfall of Véu da Noiva) or from the town of Sao Vicente, where you can park right in town and set off on a short and easy route.

This is the old route along the northern coast of Madeira; the road has been replaced by tunnels under the mountains for easier transport and the old version no longer carries cars, providing a walk with views of the ocean, steep cliffs and several waterfalls that the route passes. Although this is a short and easy route, the trail breaks up easily in places and care should be taken.

The Ribeira de Inferno is at its most beautiful at sunset and, especially if you stay in Sao Vicente (which, with its location in the middle of the island, is a great starting point for excursions), it is an ideal evening stroll.
