Sommarøy is an island located about 60 km west of Tromsø, known for its white sandy beaches, turquoise water and unique Arctic atmosphere. Despite its northern location, it has an almost exotic feel and is often compared to tropical islands – but with a cooler climate. Sommarøy is the ideal place for nature lovers looking for tranquillity and beautiful scenery. In summer, you can enjoy endless days under the midnight sun, while in winter the island provides perfect conditions for aurora viewing – there is neither light smog nor cloud cover as frequent as in Tromsø.
The island is connected to the mainland by a bridge, which is one-way, or there is a traffic light. Sommarøy is also known for its fishing tradition and the authentic atmosphere of Norwegian coastal life. If you are looking for an experience in unspoilt nature, Sommarøy is a place you should not miss.
As such, Sommarøy has a magnificent view from the nearby Ørnfløya peak. It is also worth mentioning the 3 colourful houses almost at the end of the island, which are a frequent “target” for many visitors due to their photogenic nature. We couldn’t resist either.
