Heřmanice lookout tower

The Heřmanice lookout tower, which was opened in 2012 and is made almost entirely of wood, is located on the outskirts of the village of the same name in the Frýdlant foothills. The lookout tower is almost 24 metres high and resembles not only a cucumber, as its authors from the Mjölk studio call it, but also a male genitalia. This studio is behind other architectural gems not only in North Bohemia, such as Hlídka na Stráži or Rozhledna Špička. You can read more about the lookout tower on the Mjölk Architects website.

The tower is reached by a short path from the car park, from where it is only a few dozen metres to the structure. The lookout tower is interesting not only because of its shape or wooden construction, but also because it offers 2 staircases and 2 viewing platforms – one at the top and the other “one floor below”. As far as the staircases are concerned, this is a concept that is also offered by the Petřín tower, for example, with one serving for the way up and the other for the way down.

From the very top of the tower you can see the wide surroundings, especially towards the Jizera and Lusatian Mountains.
